Werribee has quietly become one of the most reliable wedding regions inside the Melbourne metro area. The Views Werribee, with its lake, its broad paddocks, and the long open eyelines toward the You Yangs, is a venue I've come to know well; some of my favourite golden-hour portraits have been taken on the western edge of the property as the sun drops behind the hills.

Werribee Mansion sits a few minutes away, and gives you something completely different: formal gardens, heritage architecture, and the kind of grounds that work as their own backdrop in any season. Holiday Inn Werribee handles the modern reception side well, and many couples I work with stitch a getting-ready stay there with a ceremony at the Mansion or the Views, which keeps logistics simple for guests.

The west's biggest photographic asset is space. Most venues have wide enough grounds that you don't compete with other parties or other photographers. The trade-off is exposure: the paddocks offer little natural shade, so summer ceremony timing matters. I always work backward from sunset to plan portraits, then forward from getting-ready to make sure we never feel rushed.
