Wedding photography
in the Macedon Ranges.
Granite outcrops, country gardens, and the cooler northern light an hour from the city. Documentary collections from AUD $1,200.
An hour north, and an entirely different kind of country.
The Macedon Ranges sit just outside Melbourne's reach, far enough north that the country properly opens up. Granite outcrops rise out of paddocks, deciduous trees turn through colour in autumn, and the light has the cool clarity of higher altitude. Hanging Rock is the region's most famous landmark for good reason: it photographs unlike anywhere else in Victoria, especially in the late afternoon when the rocks catch warm side-light.
Beyond Hanging Rock, the region runs north through Woodend, Kyneton, and out toward Trentham and Glenlyon. Couples who choose the Macedon Ranges usually want a wedding with a sense of distance from the city, and the venues here suit that: cellar doors, private homesteads, country halls, and converted stables. The pace is slower and the days feel longer than they do closer to town.
Practically, the Ranges are an hour to an hour and a half from Melbourne depending on traffic, which is worth factoring into transport for your guests. Light at altitude can also be unpredictable; I plan portrait windows around forecast cloud cover so we can move on a rolling sky if we need to.
Macedon Ranges venues and locations.
The Ranges have a smaller venue scene than the Yarra Valley but real character. Here are the venues and outdoor spots I get asked about most.
- Hanging Rock Reserve iconic / outdoor
- Mount Macedon Winery cellar door / hillside
- Campbell's Bend private property / paddock
- Forest Glade Gardens, Mount Macedon heritage gardens
- Glenlyon Dam area country / waterfront
- Cleveland Winery, Lancefield winery / barn
Recent Victorian work.
I'm available across the Macedon Ranges, but my published galleries currently sit closer to Melbourne. A short selection of recent days that share the same documentary approach.
Quietly there, ready when the light turns.
I move with the day, not against it. No staged moments, no rehearsed reactions. In country settings I tend to walk further than most photographers, scouting a portrait spot while you're with your guests, so when we step out for fifteen minutes together everything is already framed in my head.
In their own words.
We've known each other since we were four. Somehow the wedding still felt new. Yas got every bit of it.
Jordy & NicThe Views Werribee We wanted every part of Melbourne that mattered to us in one day. Yas made it feel effortless.
DanWen & IlMelbourne Registry, Parliament House & Royal Exhibition Building We have looked at our gallery more times than we can count. Yas gave us the day back, again and again.

Macedon Ranges questions, answered.
Do you travel to the Macedon Ranges from Melbourne?
Yes, regularly. The Macedon Ranges sits within the included travel window for most venues; for weddings further north toward Daylesford or Castlemaine I'll quote a small overnight or fuel allowance upfront so there are no surprises.
Which Macedon Ranges venues do you know?
Hanging Rock has been an iconic ceremony location for generations and still photographs beautifully if you avoid peak tourist hours. Glenlyon Dam, the surrounding countryside through Woodend and Kyneton, and the granite outcrops around Mount Macedon all give you something distinctive to work with. I'm equally happy in a private property or a cellar door, depending on the day.
Best season for a Macedon Ranges wedding?
Late spring through autumn (November to early May). The Ranges run cooler than central Melbourne and the seasons feel more pronounced, which photographs well. Autumn is gorgeous: deciduous gardens around Mount Macedon turn through reds and golds, and the air is crisp without being cold.
